Windows failed to start

Hello all,

I have a Asus Netbook. It came pre-installed with Windows 7. I installed Ubuntu. It was a dual boot setup.

I used Ubuntu a lot and decided to uninstall it.

I was removing it by following a tutorial using EasyBCD.

I did as mentioned and now my computer boots into a black screen with message :

Windows failed to start... File: \Boot\BCD; Status: 0xc0000098; Info: The Windows Boot Configuration Data file does not contain a valid OS entry.

Can anyone please help me with this.

PS : I dont have a recovery disc.

Well Praveer there is a way out if you have to reinstall 7 use this http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2432-usb-windows-7-installation-key-drive-create.html

and activate it with the code on the machine sticker.

A lot of work mate but for future use when I want to use Ubuntu I have a bootable disk and use the try as installing is a hazardous business especially as you did with the dual boot setup.

Someone else might be able to help out but this will give you one way out.

When you get to the ISO site make sure you pick the version (32 or 64bit) that was originally installed if Home pick Home and not say Pro it doesn't like it. Plus dont pick a version that has an N in it there is no WMP included.

GRUB was the boot manager when I had installed Ubuntu. But I tried making Windows boot default using EasyBCD and since then it started happening.

Looks like you are stuck with an install Praveer I have never used the BCD and the only dual boot I have ever used was the beta 8 and 7 but seeing these OS's are quite different.....

Like I think I mentioned if you want to use Ubuntu I would be inclined to just boot from a disk and use the TRY option.

Now as I am a bit of a tinkerer I would even try installing another drive and just install Ubuntu solely to it but then you would have to set the HDD with the OS you want to use first via the BIOS first boot device setting. But me being me I just used to disconnect the drive not needed and just boot as normal. But there again I am as I said a bit of a mad tinkerer

You need to update GRUB. That will add windows boot entry there. At that point, it is extremely hard to get windows boot manager back to give you a dual boot environment.

Yep that's ok Archie but if the OP doesn't want the Ubuntu as in the first post then he is better off if his data is saved for 7 he can either do the install or a factory default the latter of course will load up the bloat again though

In that case, the best option will be to back up the user data by following http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/93347-copy-paste-windows-recovery-console.html and then go for a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html , IMO.
