For Noel - recommended Repair Install ? Windows 10

Hello Noel -- after a long series of diagnostics on a machine where the browsers persistently refuse to work, you came to the conclusion that the permissions are scribbled and that I should do a repair install.

My machine is bog standard Staples Acer Aspire that came with Windows installed. As I understand it, it will be difficult to get the requisite to do a repair install. The guidance on Seven forums sends us to River tech, I think it is called, and they indicate this may be difficult.

Microsoft is sending me messages to upgrade to Windows 10 and says my box is compatible. Is this a good idea?

As ever, any guidance will be received with deep gratitude.

M$ is sending invitations... to everyone for win-10 so
Is it a fix all other than simply clean installing with a iso of win-7 or buying a new reinstall disk of win-7 :/
You'd have to make that call

10 is still new and compatibility has been fairly good on the upgrading but there have been issues with upgrading for numerous people
There's always a clean install after crossing fingers with the upgrade to 10 which you might loose your current install and all files in the process so Backup/ Backup those Before upgrading

Thanks for all the tips everyone. I have read through the advice and was hoping Noel might be willing to comment as he is familiar with the Win 7 issues.

Either I find a way to do the Win 7 repair install

or proceed with a Win 10 upgrade which might fail altogether?

Is that the choice or is this more systematic?
