[FONT=&quot]Hi

I have Windows 7, 64 bit Lenovo ideapad that is not allowing system updates. This has been going on for awhile. I do some research on the problem and attempt to fix it myself. When I am unsuccessful I become frustrated so then I don't try again for several months. Meanwhile, my computer performance is getting worse and worse.

What I've tried so far:[/FONT]

  • [FONT=&quot]Windows updater troubleshooter:[/FONT]
    • [FONT=&quot]Service registration missing or corrupt-FIXED[/FONT]
    • [FONT=&quot]Problems installing recent updates-FIXED[/FONT]
  • [FONT=&quot]Starting computer in clean boot to try to install updates.[/FONT]
  • [FONT=&quot]Temporarily disabling antivirus software (AVG Antivirus Free Edition) and trying to run the updates.[/FONT]
  • [FONT=&quot]I've downloaded and tried to run the SURT (not 100% sure if it actually DID run).[/FONT]
  • [FONT=&quot]SFC scan did not find any integrity violations.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]I was unable to upload CBS zip file to this thread. I tried a few times. Connection was reset.

I have not yet tried to restore the registry because I'm not 100% confident on how to do it although I did backup my computer on an external hard drive.

Please let me know if you require any additional information.

Any insight, advice or help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks![/FONT]

Please follow the WindowsUpdate Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for anumber of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

I've uploaded a file - sghaa.zip - to my
OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive

Please downloadand save it.

Right-click on the downloaded file, and select
Extract all…

Extract to the default location - which will create a
new folder sghaa in the same place.

Open this folder- there should be one folder inside it
(Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to
thefolder

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a
while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

Been a while since I saw one of these!
Code:
Checking Package Manifests and Catalogs
(w) CBS Catalog Expired 0x800B0101 servicing\Packages\Package_11_for_KB2729094~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.0.cat

This originates from an error made by MS involving the certificates attached to the updates concerned.

Here's how to deal with it...

Open the C:\Windows\servicing\packages folder using Windows Explorer and find the first .cat file listed above

Right click the file, click Properties, and then click the Digital Signatures tab.

Click Details, and then click View Certificate. Under Valid from, note the second date listed (the date the certificate expired). Click OK, click OK, and then click OK again.

Change the date on your computer to before the expiration date noted in the certificate. To learn how to do this, see Setting the clock - Windows Help

Open Installed Updates by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Programs, and then, under Programs and Features, clicking View installed updates.

Find the update identified by the KB number above, and then click Uninstall. Administrator permission required If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
repeat for each file listed, then reset the clock back to normal date and time, and run the CheckSUR tool again
Post the new CheckSUR.log file

The certificates all expired 6/26/2013.
I changed the clock to 6/25/2013, 6/24/2103, 6/26/2013 and 6/27/2013 and could not
find any of the three KB updates (KB2729094,KB2705219,KB2732500)

Change the clock back again to 6/24/2013, then open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run these commands (one at a time)

wusa /uninstall /kb:2732500
wusa /uninstall /kb:2705219
wusa /uninstall /kb:2729094

with luck that will remove the errant updates, and you can reset the clock back to normal.

The errors are still there - unsurprisingly.

I need to think about this. I'll reply again when I've thought of a new approach, but shout if you haven't heard before the weekend!

I've been working 12-hour days this week :( - as well as trying to catch up/keep up with the forum :(

I haven't forgotten you, or your patience!

Back when I can find time (and energy - I'm also fighting a cold!)

Ooops!

Let's have a look in the registry...
I need to have a look at your COMPONENTS registry hive

Please copy the C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) to your desktop and then compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site (preferably Dropbox or OneDrive) and post a link.
