Windows Update failure - IE 11 from IE 8 - Code 9C59

Slartybart - Ran the chdsk. No major issues, results below for reference.

Reset host file to default using the MSFixit

Tried to run the IE11 update again, and it thought about it just long enough to get my hopes up, and then failed again. Same error code as before. 9C59

When I first had trouble with IE 11, I backed it off to IE 10. Then I had some issues with IE 10 and backed it off to IE 9.

After a month or so, I decided to try again, but again had some issues, this time I had to roll IE all the way back to IE8. Maybe I didn't 'have' to, but other testing I had done wiped out my previous versions and IE 8 was all that was left.

Went back to IE9 through Windows Update and hid IE 11 when offered (interestingly IE 10 was no longer offered). I ran with IE 9 for about two a months making sure I had all of the updates and then decided to IE 11 try again. It loaded all of the platform updates that IE 10 required and then installed IE 11. There were a number of boots between (30%, 70%,100%). The reboots might have happened after the platform updates too, I forget.

This is just something to chew on, give Noel a chance to read the event logs he asked for before making that drastic of a change. Noel is one of the best members to help you hunt down a solution regarding Windows updates.. I've seen his magic.

For the time being, consider this post anecdotal.

The CHKDSK result is interesting - but I doubt that it will affect anything in terms of our problems.
Please post a new set of event logs - we'll see if the hosts error has been solved or not.

Slartybart - I'm currently running IE8, and have attempted to upgrade to IE9 and IE10 manually before with similar results. At this point I'm definitely up for trying anything that could set me on the path to getting to IE11. Let's see if Noel can work some magic. :)

There's an odd driver there which is being blocked by Windows - presumably because it's incompatible...
Tages (tagesprotection.com) copy protection system driver file - atksgt.sys
Please investigate it at your end, and either uninstall or update it.

There is a weird certificate error in the logs also - access denied in CAPI2, EventID 4110 - which could well be causing your main problem.
Unfortunately, there's not a lot of data about on it so it could take a while to research.

Back when I can...

NoelDP - I've got the driver removed. Looks like it was installed as part of a game DRM quite some time ago. I haven't had much luck on finding much with the CAPI12 - EventID 4110 issue. Most of what I could find is related to CA authorities being out of date, but the information is from some time ago. All my CA's look to be up to date.
