From these files, it's apparent that you have the early version of update KB2729094 installed - but not the later one. (which is exactly what should happen, I think)

Please try running these commands in an elevated command prompt, and post the new npfiles folder.

wusa /uninstall /kb:2729094
(accept any warnings it throws up before carrying on with the rest).

Code:
RD %userprofile%\desktop\npfiles /S /Q
MD %userprofile%\desktop\npfiles

Did the uninstall complete without error - or did you get a 'not found' error?
The references are still present in the registry.

Please run CheckSUR again and post the new CheckSUR.log file.

I do not remember how to run that program. It must still be on my machine.

Interesting info

I have 2 systems at a client getting this error and not able to complete update to IE10 or 11. They are also the only systems in the office that we get remote desktop errors and can not access via remote desktop. Not sure if this is related, but very interesting. Have not resolved the RD problem yet.

If the OP has two systems, it would be interesting to see if the RD problem happens there also.

I am following along on this problem/solution... and looking forward to a repeatable solution.

my $.02

Tom

Tom - this is the only time I have ever seen these errors in a CheckSUR report. Please follow the instructions and post your own data in a new thread, as it's very unlikely that you have anything like the same problem.

JLS - I can't see any changes from the earlier results - I suspect that a repair install may be necessary, but I'll take another look tomorrow first

Does that mean I should used the Windows 7 disk and choose repair? What would that do to my applications and data?

I don't think using my Windows 7 installation will work. When I tried to use it, I got an error that the version of Windows 7 in my computer is newer. This site mentions something called Windows 7 Slipstream. My understanding is that with the Slipstream DVD of Windows 7, I will not be able to access the fix option. Am I correct? Any suggestions?

You can download the SP1 ISO file and create the DVD from it - which should work.

Download the SP1 Refresh for your language and edition from the links on these pages...

Heidoc - Microsoft DR Download links

The links are for downloads from the Digital River servers run for MS, so are about as safe as you can get :)

Once you have it downloaded, you then need to burn the DVD from it - use either the Windows Disk Image Burner, or (better still) your favourite burning application at the slowest speed possible.

Note that you do NOT 'drag and drop' the file to the disk, you must use the 'burn an image' option from your app - or you'll end up with a useless coaster :)

Once you have the disk burnt, check that it boots the (or any other) system OK - but do NOT start the repair from there - you must start the repair from within a normal Windows boot.

I made the Windows 7 SP1 disk as you suggested. It worked great. After leaving my computer on all night to reload Windows 7, I can now get windows update to work. Thank you for all your help.

Great! - sometimes, the sledgehammer approach is the only way to go :)
