Dear all,

I have an issue with my 7 machine, every time I hit shut down the machine will hang on the shutdown aero screen and fails to shut.

If I leave it to run it loses the connection to the monitor which goes black and does not detect the PC input.

I then have the hold down the button in order to shut the machine down.

I have replaced the old 120 GB SSD with a larger 480 GB SSD and the behaviour is the same. I cloned the drive to change it using Macrium Reflect.

I would greatly appreciate any guidance and will gladly supply the required logs / info on request.

Many thanks in advance.

Ron.

Hello Ron mate I am nott 100% sure but I would be doing these in this order
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2

the first two n safe mode

SUPERAntiSpyware | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!
Malwarebytes | Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium
AdwCleaner Download
delete any rubbish found with the malware scans
(NB If one is running Kaspersky security it may rant about ADW - just ignore it or disable Kaspersky while the ADW is being used)

If nothing comes up then I am wondering if you use a registry cleaner of some sort? If so it may have corrupted it .

Now take a look at this tutorial http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/11728-optimize-windows-7-a.html

and go to point 22 hit the link "Wait to KillService timeout" within that point (you can use option 1 or 2 I use 2 as I can control that time allotted for shutdownand it will show you the length of time it takes to shut down your system. Usually it is defaulted to 12000 I set all mine to 5 or less. If the entry has been corrupted then the 12000 will of course be way more than that.
To change the time you will of course have to run regedit as admin (right click on regedit)

By the by the rest of that tutorial is also very handy for speeding up your machine - it is my bible;)

Edit a pic to show where I mean

Did cross my mind Roy but doesn't it usually say don't turn off the machine - configuring etc??

Seems to me something is hanging the machine on shutdown and I would like to see what his reg entries are saying - if he hasn't got a malware of some description.
