I had started this thread Can't create an ad-hoc network. but got no response. Anyways, when I use the ipconfig command, I get the media disconnected message under the Wireless Adapter even though the switch is on and the light is glowing. Also I saw that I had 21 tunnel adapter's and all of them have the media disconnected status. I have disabled/enabled my wifi adapter also uninstalled/installed the driver.

Does it work in safe mode (F8)?

Can you tell us your network setup?

What AV and firewall?

Encrypted or not?

It doesn't work in safe mode. I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2011. I don't think it is encrypted as I haven't changed any settings recently.

Solved the problem. It was rather silly. One of my friends was playing with my laptop a few days back and it seems to me that he disabled my wifi by pressing the function key and the wifi icon key (F4 in my case). But since I don't have a separate light for wifi (my bluetooth/wifi has the same switch and the same light), I thought that my wifi is on. Even I don't have a software installed which displays the icons for the function keys as my laptop came with XP, and now I use Windows 7. So I had no chance of knowing that my wifi is disabled. Anyways, the problem is solved and that's what matters!

If you have any more problems try delating those 21 tunnel adaptors by going into device manager, choose "View" then "show hidden devices" then delate all the extra tunnel adaptors. They can cause problems if you don't get rid of them.
