I did a couple updates tonight but SP1 was not an option:(. I found this article: You do not have the option of downloading Windows 7 SP1 when you use Windows Update to check for updates and the two updates that are needed it seems I have. I ran the Direct X Diagnostic tool because it mentions in the article about an Intel graphics driver that may cause update KB2454826 not to be offered but as you can see I DO have it installed. My driver version number seems like it may be the one that they are talking about but I don't think I have Igdkmd64.sys on my system and as I said KB2454826 IS installed. Why is SP1 not a option for me to install? Can the servers just be overwhelmed and will offer it later?

Look in Windows/Drivers/system32 and you may find Igdkmd64.sys.

I have it and I have Intel HD video.

I had no problems getting SP1 from Windows Update.

That warning is about CERTAIN versions of the Intel HD video driver. Is your driver within that quoted range of versions that will cause a problem?

I looked and I as well have Igkmd64.sys. and I think my version may be within that range but I am not sure (see attachment above)and I don't think it is causing me not to see SP1 since the update they say may not install (KB2454826) via that article is in fact installed on my pc BUT SP1 still is not yet an option for me. I really don't want to update my graphics driver if I do not need to since I don't think it is my problem.

Go back and look at the property details of Igdkmd64.sys

Below is a pic of mine. Note that it does NOT fall within the mentioned range.

Just going by the pic you previously posted, it looks like yours DOES fall in the mentioned range.

I haven't looked at that warning document since earlier today, but I thought that the KB2454826 issue was entirely separate?

Here is Mine and it does look like mine falls within that range but as the article states:

Windows 7 SP1 will not appear in Windows Update if update 2454826 is not installed. Windows Update will not offer you update KB2454826 if you are using one of the following Intel integrated graphics drivers:

I do in fact have KB2454826 Installed so I am not sure if this even applies. I am not sure where to go to find the updated driver if there is one. I do not want to install the wrong driver and mess things up more.

HP support would be the place for you to look. I have a Gigabyte motherboard and am using the Intel driver I found there. It is dated January of this year. Yours is from April of last year.

I am sure you can find a version at Intel, but I'd go with HP if they have one available.

But of course I can't say if the new driver will necessarily solve your problem.

Personally, I'd try it after I first did a system restore. It's generally a good idea to have updated drivers anyway.

Unless I am looking in the wrong place at HP Support it looks like I have the original and latest Intel Graphics Driver dated 8/12/2010. I am also unsure if this will change anything since it looks like is I had a incompatible driver the stated update KB2454826 would not be installed which it is on my system.

I also went to the Intel site and ran the utility only to come up with it is a customized driver from HP (see attachment)

It's somewhat peculiar that the Intel driver shows an August date at HP, but an April date on your system.

However, as you say, although the 2119 version is within the range to be avoided, it wouldn't appear to be directly related to your issue.

Have you considered uninstalling KB2454826, uninstalling your Intel graphics driver, and then reinstalling them---preferably through fresh downloads?

I did download an Intel HD graphics driver from Intel, but I did not install it. I also used the utility you mentioned and it referred me to Gigabyte as it referred you to HP. The Intel driver is dated Jan 7, 2011.

Looks like there are even newer drivers:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sea...controllers&ProductProduct=Intel®+HD+Graphics

It may be that HP is behind the curve and simply is not updating drivers rapidly.

I'd guess you have an Intel H55 chipset?

But I am just guessing here and have no particular further advice---other than I would personally try alternatives subject to System Restore points if I couldn't get SP1 to show up in WU within a day or so. It ain't right, for some reason.

ignatzatsonic- thanks for all your help! I think I will wait a day or two and see if it shows up. I will monitor this forum and see if any solutions come up. I would try a system restore but not sure if it would help since I have never been offer SP1. My chipset is Intel H57 Express LPC Interface Controller

IF SP1 does not show up for me in the next few days I take it I can just go here to download? Download details: Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932)

Will it install automatically? Is there anything I should know before attempting to download? I am not a total idiot with computers but do not have the knowledge most of you have so any advice would be great :D

Also I was wondering if SP1 is throttled and just may not yet be available to me?

Hello. I believe I have the same problem. SP1 not showing in Windows Update. I have the file needed for it show up however I also have the intel file 8.15.10.2104 in my programs list. My PC is 2 months old and I've been using ATI Radeon HD 4550 (not sure if it matters)that I installed myself. I tried going to Dell Re: Windows 7 SP1 failing to install due to driver issue - Microsoft OS Forum - Software & Operating Systems - Dell Community and I did see a mod tell someone to uninstall the intel file and install the new one http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=19809&ProdId=3231&lang=engon the Intel website however I did this and it says my PC doesn't meet the miniumum requirements???! So I'm stuck. I also have the Intel H57 Express LPC Interface Controller. What gives? Anyone?

Thanks.

Yup I have both installed. I am in Indiana (doesn't matter) This is ridiculous. It will not let me install the new INTEL driver as Dell suggested. I am wondering if I take out my ATI graphic card if my PC will default to my Intel graphics and then I can try it. Not sure if this even matters.

Yes that's where you need to get it.

You need only the 64 bit exe file, which is 903 MB in size.

windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe

Make sure you get the above file, since you have 64 bit Windows 7. It took me about 7 minutes to download it.

No particular precautions other than those you have already read about concerning that KB25........... and the Intel HD video thing.

Do a fresh virus scan before you install.

All you have to do is poke the EXE file after you download it. It might take an hour to finish and will reboot a time or two.

If it succeeds, all of your existing restore points will be gone.

Yeah, you might consider uninstalling Intel HD video before you begin?

I should add: I think your system has to be in a certain state of "updatedness" before you can install SP 1?? I mean that in some cases, Windows Update will likely force you to install update X, Y, or Z before it would feed you SP 1. So, you might generally ensure that you are updated as much as possible before you begin, via Windows Update. And then use the EXE.

Maybe I will just take my ATI graphics card out and default to intel. Then delete media accelerator file and reinstall the one Dell said (Hopefully it will not tell me my system doesn't meed the requirements) - which is my problem. I have no way to disable my graphics card and I am not sure if it's conflicting with the update of the Intel Graphic Driver that my PC came with? Am I just wasting time?

IF SP1 does not show up for me in the next few days I take it I can just go here to download? Download details: Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932)

Will it install automatically? Is there anything I should know before attempting to download? I am not a total idiot with computers but do not have the knowledge most of you have so any advice would be great :D

Also I was wondering if SP1 is throttled and just may not yet be available to me?

I am fully patched except for SP1 so no problem there. I think I might wait a day or so and then call HP Tech Support:shock: not that I want to but I want to make sure I get the correct driver. If I install the updated driver does it automatically install or do I have to "point" it to the correct folder? and how do I know where that is?

Also if I decide do do a manual download of SP1 will I have to download something to open the file? It's an ISO file correct? or will Windows 7 be able to open and Install?

Sorry for all the questions:o

No, the 903 MB file i referred to is an EXE, not an ISO. All you need to do is poke it.

The ISO is needed ONLY if you want to burn to a disc. The ISO is nearly 2 gigs and includes both 32 bit and 64 bit. I may download it later if I decide to burn to disc, but really, since you can download the EXE, I don't see much point to it.

You don't need any of the "MSI" files shown at the download site either. Just that one 903.2 exe.

The install method on the driver can be cute and tricky. I'd first want to know from HP if they have anything newer than what you have and they probably don't.

Offhand, can't you uninstall the Intel HD video driver now and see if you can get SP 1 installed and then reinstall the video driver? For all I know, you could get SP 1 installed from the exe without uninstalling HD video? You certainly don't need Intel HD video to have a display working.

I"d guess the best way to uninstall/reinstall video drivers would be from Device Manager. You'd point the installer to wherever you have the new driver located on your hard drive ("let me select location" or whatever lingo they use, rather than "let Windows locate"). The driver will know where to install itself, but you have to know how to find the installation file so you can navigate to it in Device Manager.

But if your major concern is getting SP 1 installed, I'd say uninstall HD video entirely, get SP 1 going, and then worry about HD video.

I'm assuming you can get back to a pre-SP 1 state if you absolutely had to through a recovery partition, Windows install discs, or whatever.

You might consider making a system image before you begin with Macrium if you can't otherwise easily get back to a pre SP 1 state if you go completely in the toilet.

ignatzatsonic, Ok thanks I WAS concerned about uninstalling the driver that it would affect my display. I will hold tight for a bit to see if HP comes out with a fix and I really actually want to wait a few days maybe a week install SP1 BUT I do want it there when I am ready.

My guess would be HP doesn't think there is a problem. There may not be. This could all be peculiar to your PC for reasons you will never know. It could be entirely related to Windows Update.

You've got more patience than I do. I'd say to hell with it, uninstall HD video (or maybe not) and dive in using the 903.2 mb EXE download and avoid Windows Update. Then go back to HD video after SP 1 was going well.
