convert to ntfs from fat32

hi all
sorry i havent checked if this thread is already covered as im in the middle of trying to convert my new external hdd,
it is formatted as fat32 and i just started to convert it using comand promt like this tells u
How to Convert FAT Disks to NTFS

i have entered the comand convert D: /fs:ntfs then hit enter but its now asking me to input volume label. i would of thought it would b as labeled in my computer which is HITACHI(G:) but this doesnt work. ive tried naming it anything diff but not workin. any help will b GREATLY APRECIATED thanks in advance:confused:
edit. no matter. thanks but im just gonna backup wots on it then format it. instead of converting it

One of the nice things about the format/convert option with windows is it in it's own wierd way is trying to protect you from yourself. :) Asking you to input the disk label is one way of telling you that everything won't be ok as it most likely is going to format the drive and destroy all the existing data on the disk.

I have dos 6.22, wfwg 3.11, win98, 2000 and xp VHD's available for testing. MS's Virtual PC works great.

If thats the case then why is microsoft saying ur files will still b intact? Thats a bit of a cockup enit:rolleyes:
