Uninstall using Revo Uninstaller Freeware. Hopefully those will go. BTW, dont you use any other third party codecs or player?

Install Shark007.net - Windows 7 Codecs - WMP12 Codecs, after installation, apply "shark007 suggested settings".

Is it changing anything there?

Edit: Is MS Project set to be the default application for anything? As a test, you may set as not default.

Hi Arc,

I have use winamp for a while with no obvious problems - and dont recall a recent update of codecs either.

MS Project has not been set as default prog - but will check this out tonight when I get home.

It's best to try Step 1 most of the time it does the trick.

HI

I tried ShellExViewer and followed the thread to identify any potential file extension problems - found nothing.

Used revo to uninstall some other apps, but hoped it would check for previous uninstalled progs too - but cant see a setting which 'cleans' past uninstallations.

The only solution left for me is to repair install Windows7 - unless someone else can provide further advice?

Hi

So, I downloaded the ISO file and created an image to dvd. Tried to complete a repair install and I got a very long warning message straight away telling me a dll was invalid.

So, I then downloaded the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool to burn the ISO file to a new dvd. The tool then tells me the file is not a valid ISO file, despite me downloading it from Dell site, and the file having .iso file type.

Ive checked my file name - X17 58997 - this is correct for my system ( Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit with SP1 in English).

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Check the MD5 hash values. Try alternative application to burn to ISO

But if you know the MD5 value of the ISO on your disk.... you have to compare it with the real value to prove it has downloaded the correct way.

I let it run overnight because my internet connection is terrible 1MB/s!!!!
