ATI Radeon drivers install, but fail to initialize

Torrent can you work your magic for me too please. I installed windows 7 64 bit ultimate , somehow it compressed my Xp. Old video card would not run so i purchased HIS 4650 agp 1gb card.
Drivers seem to load but keeps standard vga as others have posted.
Following your post i have identified the same hardware id as crazy ( would have tried it but was downloaded 10 times already) 9495
I have windows 7 64 bit installed
I would really appreciate your help as i now have no operating system running.
Anything you could do would be most appreciated
using the 9-10vista64_win7_64_dd.exe

It says that it is not for my version of windows for some reason
I have also tried the 64 bit drivers from the manufacturers page with the same results

For some of you people who are having problems installing ATI drivers if you have an AGP card you might want to look here - Catalyst AGP Hotfix - Radeon HD 4000 Radeon HD 3000 and Radeon HD 2000 Series AGP products. This page will be updated as new AGP hot fix drives are updated. Also, even though it says Vista it will probably work for Windows 7, but...

That uses the Vista WDDM 1.0 driver.

My method here uses the latest Windows 7 WDDM 1.1 driver.

Download the latest normal desktop driver for Win7 64 bit from ATI's site. Extract it to C:\ATI

Open the .inf with C7 or CL in there someplace, with notepad. Add this line by copying and pasting into it where all the other similar lines are:

"ATI Radeon HD 3650 AGP" = ati2mtag_RV630, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9596

Save it. Then install using the information in the link in my post right above, starting at step 6. The folders shown will be somewhat different because of x64, but you should probably be able to figure things out. Good luck.

"ATI Radeon HD 3650 AGP" = ati2mtag_RV630, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9596?

Just checking
My board is the HD4650 AGP version with ID 9495

So should my line read :
"ATI Radeon HD 4650 AGP" = ati2mtag_RV630, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9495 ?

Thanks for your time and effort torrent
tried as you detailed and system installed driver and then on restart went into system repair/restore.
I'm guessing it might be that my motherboard is just too old or i might need to get 32 bit version

You're welcome.

Yes, it is too old. It uses the nForce3 chipset which will be impossible to use on Vista or 7 with AGP hardware acceleration.

(I am betting that someone very talented that could reverse engineer the XP AGP port driver could actually get this to work. It's outside of my realm, however.)

Sure Fuchser. Follow this to install but only using this .inf in my attachment here. Copy and paste it over the original .inf you will have somewhere in C:\ATI when you extract from the ATI file from their site. Then go to step 6.

Yes. Follow this to install.

The only thing you have to do differently is to add this line to the .inf you'll use (in my attachments) in the section where all other similar ones are, then save it. Copy and paste it in.

Hi, im having issues with HD 2400 PRO PCI...

I downloaded ATI Catalyst™ 9.10 Suite for Windows 7 (32-bit),
Added "ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO PCI" = ati2mtag_RV610, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5834 to file (no other entries with 5834),
Installed drivers, changed theme, rebooted. But nothing changed. Drivers seems to be installed and device managed shows that device is ok.

Any help plz? :(

OMG I finally found someone who could help!!

TorrentG,

I have been suffering with my display drivers for nearly a month. You are the closest I have been in all that time to finding help and I hope you are the one.

I situation is similar to the others. I get a blank screen with only my mouse visible whenever Win7 loads with (512mb) ATI 4650 Radeon driver installed. I hear the win7 startup tones but thats it. It works under safe mode (which is what I am using now). I hate not being able to use the full capability of my monitor.
My Win7 is 64 bit

My hardware ID is 9498.

Can you save me too?

Sure. With system off, detach any 2nd monitor and television currently attached to video card. Leave only primary monitor with nothing else attached. Could also boot to bios to see if onboard vga is enabled and set it to disabled if it is.

Boot to Windows and see how it goes.
