Well if thats the case then Id be swapping out a whole new mobo..

on a hunch Im going to buy a new PSU and try that out. Lot of brown outs etc over the years. I don't notice any appreciable voltage drop in cpuid but Im told I wouldn't notice the kind of sag that could throw off components like the cpu/ram anyway..

if it still occurs I'll return and I guess start shopping for a new mobo/cpu combo..

I guess the dumps don't point definitively to anything?

You're getting all sorts of errors including network issues, display crashes etc. I would ask to enable driver verifier at this point but because you've had crashes in the BIOS and your PC crashes when running Prime95 I think that's enough indication that it's a faulty CPU.

Bugcheck 24's can sometimes be solved by updating the BIOS - yours is reasonably old. Check for an update and install that if there is one available.

Yeah as far as I know thats the most recent one. It is an old computer at this point, built in 2009.. I guess it was time to go.

Got a new PSU last night and installed, fired up prime95 and it started running for about a minute still on its first pass and I got really hopeful but then blam, froze up. Returning the psu and am probably working out the details of a new mobo and cpu.

Appreciate all the help guys. Sadly not a happy ending, but I kind of feared/knew that would likely be the case

PSU? Prime95 is a CPU stress test, alright a failing power supply can cause the issue when running CPU intensive programs because the CPU requires more power.
I would highly recommend buying a new CPU or trying a different one that is in another PC you own.

I had other reasons to believe it may have been PSU related, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't that so I didn't have to buy a new one as well in this worst case scenario.

But yes, I'm going to be ordering a pentium g3420 and an asus z87-a and eventually dropping a core i7 in there in the next month or so.

I'm sorry that there isn't really another way besides stress testing. To make sure we need to test another CPU in your PC and you don't normally get them lying around.
Post back if you get any more issues when you get your new CPU Hopefully that will fix it.
