HDD not found

I bought anew Western Digital internal SATA 250 GB hdd.I formatted and partitioned it using easeus partition. it was working great and the new volumes were loaded with files.However, few weeks later the hdd could not be shown on explorer of win 7. When I try to access it from device managing option, it looks unknown.When trying to initialize it, i am always faced by an error message. I changed its SATA cables but the problem never solved. What shall I do to fix yhis without losing my files inside the hdd.

Don't try to fix or you may loose all data on it.
Open disk management ( run diskmgmt.msc). Expand all columns so we can read them.
Using the Sniping tool, take a snapshot of all screen an post it here as an attachment (on reply go advanced and on the bottom you have a button Manage Attachments. Select the image and upload it.)

Why do you using easeus partition.

Windows can do a better job by using disk management.

Most probably using easeus partition may cause problem.

Hi @lonelyflowerz43!

Like the others wrote, if you format the HDD you will lose all the data you have stored on it, so in order to access it you can boot up with Linux Live CD. What you have to do is download/burn the ISO image to a CD or USB and change the boot order to the media you burned the Linux on. Once it loads, you could try and mount the drive (or if Linux can read it, it will mount by itself) and see if you can transfer the files from the drive. Once the data is safely secured on another location you can try to format the hard disk with CMD by following these steps:

* Open the Start Menu, type diskpart, press Enter.
* After that type list disk, press Enter.
* Type select disk X (where X is the number your drive shows up as), press Enter and type clean, press Enter.
* After that type create partition primary, press Enter, type format quick fs=ntfs, press Enter, type assign letter=X, press Enter and lastly - type exit.

Give that a shot and let us know how it went.

Thanks for your time and advice. Of course I can do nothing to fix the hdd since it cant even be recognized by system. In disk manager it appears as Disk 0, Unknown. Its properties show no size, no name and info about contents. I will try to snapshot it as you recommended. But I really am affraid it is dead and all my valuable are gone.

I really tried to to partition the disk usin win 7 ultimate edition I have, but it did not help. Besides I used to partition all my new disks using easuse partition program but I never faced a problem as such. Thx.

Thank you for your reply. Of course I never tried to format it. Even if I try, I wouldn't be able. In fact whenever I open disk manager, it asks me to initialize the disk posting a dialogue box offering to select a method amongst the two. When I proceed, it says there was an error and therefor can't be initialize it. Your solution is great, but windows is intalled on another Hitachi 250 gb disk that is still functioning well. Luckily I still can loginto windows due to that, but WD hdd includes other volumes with my important files. Thx.

I wold say that your disk is dead.
But if not, there is a chance to recover the data on it.

1. Laptop only can have 1 HDD, which is 2.5" as your spec mentioned laptop.

2. Is this new WD int SATA 250 GB is 2.5" or 3.5"

3. Where you do put this WD 250 GB HDD in the laptop or computer or as external.

4. If you are using SATA cable, then it is internal and of which cannot be laptop.
