Hello, newbie stand back everyone :O)

I have just got a Lenovo G560 with windows 7 and since getting it two weeks ago no two days have been the same.
Programmes disappearing
screens greying out
will not shut down
takes a walk around the block and cook a roast time span to start up programmes
cannot repair messages
it goes on and on

I am totally bewildered, I seem to get over one little problem and then another smacks me in the moosh.

I am terrified I will start it up one day and everything has disappeared, I do backup important files on a external hard drive but that's not the point, I want to enjoy my computer and be able to rely on it, but at the moment I am getting a deep dislike for it.

I am not technically minded, so if any kind person has any suggestions as to what I might do to make me love it again, can they please put it in baby language.
Thanking you in advance :D

There are several ways to find what the problem is. The best is to go into event viewer (type eventvwr in search). Go to the windows log>application tab.

You want to look for critical errors (they have red in the left column ).

When you find them you want to look for critical errors that say app hang, app crash, or anything that relates to the problem.

When you find them please note the event ID, and the source codes and tell us what they are.

Since the machine is only two weeks old, I would seriously consider returning it to Lenovo and make them fix or replace it. You should not have this kind of problem with a new computer.

+1.

Use the free tech support included for first year to get it fixed or replaced, then shaken out so you know you've got a good one by the time the warranty runs out.

Often preinstalled Windows is corrupted by sponsors' bloatware and useless factory utilities have better versions built into Windows 7 and which weigh down Windows 7, which otherwise is a feather-light and instantaneous OS in it's native state.

Here are tips to clean up factory bloatware: Clean up factory bloatware

If these don't help, here are the basics for troubleshooting Windows 7: troubleshooting steps

Many tech enthusiasts find a Win7 installer for their version to clean reinstall just the OS using the Product Key on COA sticker. Here are tips to get a perfect clean reinstall of factory OEM: Reinstalling Windows 7

sandy,

Forget the past.

When you, right now, fire up your computer.

Does the computer start correctly ? Yes or no.

If you immediately, shut down your computer, then is the shutdown normal? yes or no

Of course, a little more info about your computer would be useful.

I'm with gregrocker on this one.

Lenovo have sold you a computer that is not fit for purpose so they should be given the chance to repair, exchange or refund.

After all, if you bought a new car whose engine kept misfiring you'd return it in double-quick time, I'm sure.

I just find it all so gutting, costs you and arm and a leg to just ring these people, then I will loose everything I have downloaded onto it - well not loose but it has taken me the two weeks since I have had it to get all I need on it.
I know you are right, I will give it a few more days to see if it will settle down, I have put lots of stuff on it and there may be conflicts.

Does not do your nerves much good though when your afraid to start it up each morning in case it does something else peculiar :o(

While I can't speak directly about Lenovo, any OutOfBoxExperience should be trouble-free. Lenovo warranty support's initial response would be to restore the G560 to factory conditions. If it's trouble-free, then a newbie's attempts to sculpt the G560 to his liking may have contributed to the troubles. "I have put lots of stuff on it and there may be conflicts."

Within a day of me getting the machine it was freezing badly, I rang the technical help line and that had me re - set it to factory setting using the little bendy arrow button next to the on and off button. Luckily I had not put anything on the machine that I was not prepared to loose. It seemed to work great after that, but gradually it has been 'growing' problems.
Having said all that - today nothing odd has happened - now I am starting to worry that nothing odd has happened :O)

So having said all that, do we think I should ask for a repair or replacement?

I would genuinely love to but I do not have enough technical knowledge to do it - plus I was not given a
installation
CD.

I am afraid it is a case of a little
knowledge
being dangerous, if I do something I really
shouldn't
either by accident or without realising the
consequences
I may affect the warranty

Hi Sandy -

You should be able to get through most of the troubleshooting steps without needing a Repair CD, although having one is a good idea in case Win7 ever doesn't start. You can make one by typing Backup in Start Search Box. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2083-system-repair-disc-create.html

Start Search can also help you find any of the other tools given to troubleshoot the problem, e.g. Event Viewer which is where I would start my search for repeat errors to gather more clues to add to the side-by-side error.

The side-by-side error is likely generated by a program unnecessarily starting with Windows. On preinstalled Win7 up to 30 programs might be starting up with the machine when you only need AV and gadgets (if you use them) because all others are freeloaders on your RAM, CPU, can spy on you and cause problems like you see. A program should start instead when you click on it.

For this reason I would establish a clean boot as described in the steps here:
Turn off all Startup items except AV and gadgets, googling any you have question about: Startup Programs - Change. After Restart, in msconfig>Services "Hide All MS Services" to see what is running without your knowledge. Uncheck each then if it returns turn it off in it's program Preferences, or uninstall.

Nothing given in the steps will invalidate your warranty. A clean reinstall may cause them to refuse to Tech Support it, but your warranty for parts is still good - and you don't need to tell them anything you did. We can give you better help here anyway, and will stick with you until it is running correctly or you decide to return it.

Thank you for helping :O)

I think I can manage to make myself a repair CD, will give that a go now.

Start up, it is suggested that you stop anything on start up that you do not need *clears throat* I don't know what I want, I do not understand what they are, I have tried Googling the different things, but often get a don't/do stop answer, what if I stop something and nothing starts???

Can I tell you that I have installed :-
The Lenovo tool box
Advast
ccleaner
and Malwarebytes
corel paint shop pro
and Photoimopression

Mcafee was already installed

I will try and find other things you have suggested :O)

I have made a disc :O) but when I look at the properties of the disc it says no Bytes free of 164MB, now was that enough to take all the information needed? and how do I check the information is really on there?
