Latest Internet Explorer 9 Release

So, if the RC of IE9b is supposedly releasing on Feb 10, then when can the final release be expected? And, do you folks know if MS will be updating IE9 in cycles similar to Chrome, Opera and FF? Or, will the next makeover and upgrade of IE9 follow the way in which MS upgrades IE?
Thanks

Good question. It's a lot more interesting to use software that is updated incrementally and frequently. Microsoft doesn't seem to "get" that. Fortunately there are quite a few good browsers to choose from. I'm glad that IE keeps improving, but it still doesn't really impress me. I keep an open mind though

While I agree with you about the excitement involved in working with regular and incremental updates and improvements, I should say that I do like IE9b a lot actually. Till recently, I was on Chrome (latest stable build), but after I fixed a problem with my IE9b install, I am liking it a lot more than Chrome. I accept that it is a bit slower than Chrome and lacks two very important (in my opinion) things - (1) an efficient ad-blocker add-on and (2) a spell check. But otherwise, I find IE9b to be a polished browser. And, yes, like you I don't get it why MS does not "get" the benefits of regular incremental updates specifically for their browser!!!!

Because it's an illegal copy that could also be malware infected, and you would get permanently banned.

I know that what I am going to say is (1) not going to happen and (2) would probably be criticized...nevertheless, would be interested in your views.

I like IE9b. But the tabs and One Box (with those icons to the extreme top right side) still feel somewhat counter-intuitive to me.

Perhaps, MS could use the (in)famous Ribbon to good effect in IE9? The ribbon could have the One Box embedded in it. It could also have the fav bar embedded in it too. Like it is in MS Word (and other Office 2010 apps), the Ribbon could have all the necessary commands as applicable to IE. And like the Ribbon in the various Office Apps, it would also have a one-click option to collapse the ribbon, which would increase screen space.

So, what we'd have is the Ribbon as a bar at the edge of the top side, which would be of the width of the current tab/ One Box, which could be expanded on demand with one click and reduced in the similar manner. The tabs, I think, would be best placed under this Ribbon/ bar.

Do you think this could work?

Edit: What would it be like to have the One Box as an on-demand feature? I mean - what not have a one click feature somewhere on the Ribbon, using which we could summon a "search box" to float onto the screen (either fixed location or floating - but dragable and resizeable) but which can also be closed at will? Is it absolutely essential to have the One Box (or its equivalent) at a fixed location?

I would certainly find a good feature to have the fav bar next to the address bar instead of tabs, or place favs in Office-style quick access toolbar.
But overall, the ribbon takes a lot of space in all MS's products, so yeah, like you said, not gonna happen at all.
I find the Onebox quite a nice change, actually.

Yeah...damn right it aint gonna happen! But, about the Ribbon, one could have the thing collapsible - like how you can do it in the Office docs.

Still, it wouldn't be of much use (IMHO).
