Make My Computer First icon on Desktop

I assumed when you edited the regisrty on the first page of this thread it worked untill you rebooted,. After trying it, i had no luck either, so this isnt really going to work... but ill keep trying, there maynot be a way though... This has got me interested.

The regedit never worked. Setting the icons the way I wanted them and then unchecking autoarange and sort by options worked until reboot. It was a while ago when I posted that, so I don't remember the sequence that I tried exactly. I am using something called Fences as a workaround, but I would prefer not to have to use any 3rd party apps.

I think you must have something wrong with your computer. Probably because you've been messing with the registry. On my computer, if I tick the "show computer and user files" boxes and then drag Computer to the top, it stays there when I restart.

Hi all. I noticed after I undocked my work laptop (powered off) that the screen resolution changed once re-docked (never powered on since undocked), and this same thing happened, Documents is first on the desktop.

I know this thread is dead, however since this came up as my only hit on google for my original search term, I thought I'd post the fix that I found (using other search terms) here for others to see too. I found the fix at the following page:

It seems MS, in their infinite wisdom, has made it so that there are keys for each icon's position, so you need to change a different key in order to make Computer the true first icon.
