Hmm... I guess I am just not clear as to what this is asking me to do. "Make sure it is set to Auto Start (not disabled), then select your options." As you can see, mine was set to auto. What now?

@Allonthebus - Just read and applied to the Compaq with the same problem (it is not a 64-bit OS though) (but it is win 7) and no change here. reinstalled the current driver, nothing, I'm going to try to uninstall of the drivers then reboot and see if windows update offers any drivers for it.

I thougt I remembered you checking that service real early in the thread (20 pages ago!) but yes its set properly did you have to start it or did it just look like that when you got to it?

and cruxone- the other audio endpoint service is the same?

Do you remember the day that you were listening to the audio fine (plane ride i think) and ten the last time it worked (or rather when it first did not work)?

We may like to look through your updates that time period

(Start)>>Windows Update

are there any optional updates available? if so any to do with audio?

then click view update history link

and find the "right time period" where something was installed OR tried to install but failed, then see if you can send that screen shot(s)

Sorry Mike- but I just read back through the whole thread
to see if there is anything I may have missed here
and not once was it mentioned before I had about trying
the service settings- so I guess I'll be taking that OOPS
back as it wasn't required.

I did however notice on the way through that you had asked
the OP for a full model no of the machine after I had.
Just thought I'd mention those couple of facts.

It's still not getting the problem solved but -

This is what I had remembered incorrectly:

-I have tried going into "Services" and restarting my "windows audio" and "windows audio endpoint builder" services

By the way- good idea bout the updates- I'd also
recommend going into Control Panel->WindowsUpdate->
Change Settings and ensuring that the recommended updates
checkbox is ticked ("Give me recommended updates the same way I recieve
important updates") as this is where the driver updates load into. If the box
is already checked and Windows is set to auto download AND install updates
then a worthwhile check for sure.

Apologies for double posting but maybe I wasn't understood before
about the services checking thing- then again maybe it's exactly the
same thing and I don't know it.

If it isn't the same thing (and from the screenshots before I didn't recognise those windows as that is
not the way I entered into local services) then please try this because God forbid
we should miss anything at this stage of the game:
Click the Windows orb (start button)
Type in Admin
Select Administrative Tools
Select component services
Select Services (Local)
Find the Power service in this list
Check the setting - it should be set to autostart

Is it the same thing - i profess not to know - however it looks nothing like
the screenshots posted before of the services you were checking.

Give it a go- it can't hurt right!

Ya. Its the same thing. Sorry guys, I had to run out for a bite. Going to look through the update stuff and post some screenshots.

Yeah, it is the same thing. Component services has 3 components to its snap in. one of which is Services "(Local)" (Just as computer management has Services, their just more convenient for use in the grouped manner that component services is set up, depending on the situation. (when you merely goto Services, the title bar is labeled w/o the "(Local)" part because it is derived from the name of the file "services.msc" the title of the snap-in is the same if you look at the top of the window below the menu and toolbar that is the title of the snap-in component and it is Services (Local). If thats your question, these are the same thing, aside from the grouping. Unless you meant something else? Its hard to read my screen at this hour!

Maybe that's why I echoed Mike in regard to checking the recommended updates.
Anyways that's great news bout it being the same thing at least that
has been eliminated as an option. I must try to remeber that.

Ok. Definitely failed updates, definitely the day it quit working.

I tried a couple times just now, as you can see, and it failed. At first it failed because there wasn't enough space on my hard drive. I have 2 drives and, for some reason, the one that runs things is nearly full. I deleted some stuff and there should be enough space, but it still didnt work. It said there was an unknown error, which I posted a shot of.

Thats definitely a problem, It must have started the download and run out space, leaving corrupt files partially written. , now its trying to finish the update where it left off , but that's not going happen like that. now we know the source, let me make sure I know the CORRECT manner to remedy it, and not forget something.

I'll post back shortly...
