Solved Problem with USB speed

Hi everyone. I am having a major issue with slow USB speeds (1.30MB/second usb 3.0). I thought I had solved it but apparently not. Slow speeds occur on every USB port.
I have attached a screenshot of my device manger and the usb ports that are no my system.
Note: I have no hubs or anything installed like that. All usb ports are built in on motherboard except my four front ports on my case, that is directly connected to usb 3.0 adapter on the motherboard.
*Yes there are a mix of usb3.0 and usb 2.0 sorry.*

Anyways, this is what I have done:
1.) Selected better performance for flash drives and my external hard drive.
2.) Disabled usb selective suspend. Set power options to performance before that.
3.) Uninstalled ALL (including hidden devices ones) usb devices.
4.) Made sure bios is up to date - it is. Made sure settings for usb devices was all enabled and set to fastest setting.
5.) Reinstalled Windows 7 pro sp1 x64
6.) Have all windows updates and optional.
7.) USB drivers are up to date for both times before reinstall and after.
8.) I have tried disabling my avast antivirus when copying files, still no luck.
9.) Under device manager I have checked power management tab for ALL usb devices and disabled it from turning off the device to save power...

Anyone have any ideas? I am out of them....

hey andrew you aren't showing any indicator of USB 3.0 spec there.

All the USB ports on a PC are likely not ALL 3.0's, mine, albeit a 2 year old motherboard, has only 2 actual USB 3.0 ports, and if you don't use a USB 3.0 hub or what's call a SPEED cable for USB compatibility, you'd have to directly connect the USB 3.0 devices to those specific ports otherwise it's likely 2.0 or worse 1.x.

Plus of course the drives themselves need to be USB 3.0

Motherboard handling of USB varies, I had to install a specific driver, I have attached my device manager listing.

I bought more expensive ($22) hubs and speed (USB 3.0 spec) extension cable to get what I needed done.

I only have some external HD's that are USB 3.0's.

That clear anything up for you? [drivers for motherboard USB 3.0 controller is what I would be looking for]

Sorry yes, I have updated original post. I have 6 usb 3.0 and 10 usb 2.0. Two usb 2.0 on front and 2usb 3.0 on front.

The asmedia in device manager there are my usb 3.0 drivers. That's what it was called when i installed it from the motherboard cd. The cd said it was the drivers for my usb 3.0 ports. I didn't find any updates drivers on Asus website.

My other concern is maybe I have to many usb devices connected. My room is in the attic that was turned into a bedroom.

I have the following usb devices connected:

-A usb wireless adapter
-wireless mouse
-usb wired keyboard with 2 usb ports built in
-monitor with webcam and 2 usb ports built in that connects to my computer by usb.

With all those usb devices maybe they are competing with bandwidth? I don't use the usb ports on the keyboard or the monitor, so I could disable them if that would help. Trouble is I do not know if I could disabled the ports on the units themselves without disabling the port its on. As I need the webcam and keyboard to function.

Okay, I also forgot to mention I have tried disabling my avast antivirus when copying files, still no luck.

That F: drive, what is it?

USB itself can handle a lot of devices (over 100), if it draws a lot of juice a USB device comes with it's own power source.

Fragmented files could slow you down, you did do thousands of files at once.

F drive is my Flash drive. I also want to add/point out when i plug ether my flash drive or external hard drive to another computer, the transfer rate is fantastic. Around 18MB/s
(Same music folder by the way.)

But my computer its slow...

By the way, disk defrag says it is not needed. 0% fragmented.

I have ran out of ideas as to why this is happening...I just restarted and plugged my flash drive in. I started copying things off it to my computer. That was faster than before. 11MB /s
But then when I went to copy things to it, it was 3MB /s

I then tried using my external hard drive and that produced the same slow results. IT's like the speed gets slower the longer my computer is on. So weird....

And its fast 18MB/s when I plug into into another computer, even one that has been on for awhile..

I am transferring the same content (Music) so it does not result in different results.

USB 3.0 has given me headaches on both of the rigs I bought this year, mainly from the USB 3.0 header at midboard. One was an ASMedia XHCI such as yours and my latest one is an Intel 8 Series EHCI. Granted I'm getting 10Mbps on my front ports on the Intel controller but it still throws up problems left right and centre.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I have no idea what is going on here. I have kinda given up. Don't know what else to do. I guess I'll just live with it. Maybe my motherboard mftr. ASUS will release a update for the board for speed issues with usb. Maybe I'll get lucky
I would call them about it, but I probably will be told the same things I have already done.

I do feel like its an issue with usb bandwith. But I like my keyboard and monitor. Just wish there was a way to prevent windows from seeing the usb ports on them that I don't ever want to use.

I'm not sure to be honest, all I have connected to my rig via USB is a keyboard, mouse and printer (which is hardly ever used) which are all USB 2.0, and a Hitachi Touro external HDD which is USB 3.0. Whenever I connect my Kingston Data Travellers to my front USB 3.0 ports I get the 'This device can perform faster when connected to a super speed USB 3.0 port'. I've reinstalled drivers over and over again but nothing seems to fix it, my rear ports all work fine so it's definitely something to do with the mid board headers.

Looking at your jpg of Devise Manager, I don't see any USB 3.0 drivers installed. Every Windows machine I have seen well show USB 3.0 driveers specifically labeled as USB 3.0. Look at Faladu's shot of his devise manager, it shows the usb 2.0 drivers and the usb 3.0 drivers are listed specifically usb 3.0. SABERTOOTH 990FX/GEN3 R2.0 - Motherboards - ASUS

After downloading the driver under usb for the usb 3.0 ports, that asmedia XHCI is added to device manager. Also, I would like to point out it is not just 3.0 ports with slow speeds, it is 2.0 as well.
Which is why I am so confused.

-Also wanted to say that this has happened even when it was just windows and the drivers installed. No other programs at all. Still slow speeds. Reinstalling did not help.

Yeah that's right, I had to get the same drivers for my ASUS F2A85-V Pro in my backup rig, it had an ASMedia XHCI controller at midboard which handles the front USB 3.0. On that particular machine I added a BitFenix USB 3.0 front panel to the mid board header but never got it working at USB 3.0 speeds.

Run a ATTO benchmark test and post the results. You can see here the difference file size makes. These two are usb 3 through two different ports/drivers, same stick.

Not sure what happened, but I just copied some files over and its fast now. Tried it again and yeah, fast.....Only thing changed in my rig is water cooling. It's now copying at 20-40MBPS
