Weather gadget NOT updating anymore

I take no credit for this solution, but this fixed it on several machines here:

1, Open up the file: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live\Services\Cache\config.xml in notepad.

2, DO NOT make any changes, but just hit Save.

3, Wait 30 seconds and restart the gadgets.

now; how can i get it to update more frequently if thats possibe. Do I have to go into the config .xml file and edit it or do something in the registry?

I also had the same problem with the Windows 7 weather gadget. Followed jmdl1983's instructions - the gadget works again

Win 7 weather gadget 7 day fail

I used this fix twice on each unit (total 24 times)and it does work however it only lasted for 7 days , in all my units, on both occasions. Windows troubleshooter clean up was/is also disabled. This also took place on 12 different style units. The units included desktops, laptops, Win7 Ultimate, Pro, Home, 64 bit, 32 bit, With Anti virus installed and without. Some units were used during that period and some were in the sleep mode.
All units are current with Windows update and drivers. Three of the units were not updated with the most recent group of 19 updates this past week and they too failed; they were just now updated with no problems.
On a 4 user system, All with Admin privileges, I have found 1 users gadget working fine and the other three users weather gadget not to be working. On a two user system one worked and the other did not.....

Adjust the service time

Does not the Weather Gadget function anymore?
In the windows explorer
Go to Tools > Folder Options > Show hidden files, folders and drives

Go to Computer > Local Disk > Users > Name > AppData > Local >
Microsoft > Windows Live > Services > Cache

Right click on Config file and go to Edit

Look that you have these settings

services refresh="45"
service name="weather"
operation interval="15"

Roll down to these settings pass the languages

Here you need to adjust to these settinngs

service
service name="stocks"
operation interval="10"
service
service name="currency"
operation interval="15"

Save it

Now you can open it and it functions

you can go down to 30 and 10 in the first two settings
and to 5 and 10 in the two last settings

Remember to restart the Gadgets

I meant to add an update to this thread to. This fix applied to my Vista PC didn't last. Haven't checked the config file, I'll have a look tomorrow if I get chance.

This will take care of the weather gadget. Original MSN weather 2.0 from Microsoft. Only zipped to upload here.
open zip, double click, install. NO virus/malware or other nasties. Looks/acts like stock weather gadget.

Your welcome......I have had absolutely NO probs with this one....NEVER have to re-do a "fix" every few days/weeks, it just WORKS. Definitely pass it on.

Some People!

1. We did not ask about another Weather program... so, no thanks, we love Weather Meter and want to get it running.

2. We don't need to hear that Microsoft disapproves of gadgets in windows 7. They works well without any problems.

3. The C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live\Services\Cache\config.xml fix did not work for me, even after restarting the gadget.

That said, I do wish Weather Meter server did not go down as often as it does, or it had the option to get weather from another source.

Many thanks gldndragn. I have gotten fed up with the W7 weather gadget losing connection. Having said that, I'm having trouble getting the MSN one to load correctly, I just get a small white box with an < inside. I've run regsvr32 msxml3.dll etc but no joy. I'll do a restore to when the W7 widget was working and reinstall the MSN one and see if it runs.
