Hi, i have windows 7 64 bit sp1, and when i check for updates it checks for updates with no results. I have let it run overnight and still nothing. It says checking for updates with the green line going back and forth, but never gets any results. Can someone help me with this it is very frustrating.

* How long have you been unable to get updates on your Win 7 computer?
* Check Update History > what is the date on the last entry?
* Tell us about your settings for installing updates.

Are you aware that Windows updates only come out on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.
It's also known as Patch Tuesday.
On rare occasions (if a security vulnerability warrants it), Microsoft might release a patch out-of-band (meaning not on patch Tuesday)... doesn't often happen.

1. I haven't been able to check for updates since i updated the computer fully.
2.My last update was on 10-18-11
3.I have them on automatic update, i tried turning it off and manually doing it, but it still just checks for updates forever.

Are you saying that it will come back with no results, and just keep checking for updates without saying your computer is up to date? I just would like to have my checking for updates finish, and tell me my computer is up to date, but it just checks for updates and never finishes, so i don't know why it doesn't finish and tell me it is up to date or anything.

is there a file called Windowsupdate.log in c:\windows ?
If there is could you put it in a zip file and attach it with the paperclip icon above the reply box?

All this guesswork doesn't seem to be getting us anywhere, let's see if there are any errors or direct information we can look at on the subject.
That file shouldn't contain any personally identifiable information, but you are welcome to open it with notepad and check/edit before zipping.

That is curious have you ever applied any updates at all to the system in question?

That was a lot to scan over, but the most noticeable thing to me was right at the bottom there.
WARNING: WaitForServiceState failed

I'm wondering if there is a problem with your windows update service.
Have you tried updating through internet explorer, and is the result the same?

I have let it run overnight, and it still never finishes, I don't know what's causing it to never finish, everything else works fine "internet works", Everything else is working right except for the windows update never finishing checking for updates.
