Weather gadget NOT updating anymore

The same thing is happening to me.
With Both Wheather And Currency gadgets.
All other gadgets seems fine ATM.
And ive read that the servers were turned off, so if thats the case, well then its a no go for this gadgets.
I would also appreciate a workaround about this, i tried almost everything, form deleting the cache, the folders, changing the date, language, removing updates, etc.
But nothing seems to work...

You could run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/139810-sfc-scannow-run-command-prompt-boot.html and make sure the gadgets are not corrupted.

I have read some further in depth methods involving deleting temp folders and uninstalling the gadget, but that's a good step one before any of that

I have been having the same problem within the last week.

It began over the weekend and I tried every solution I could find online but nothing would work. It's not the service because the other 2 computers in the house were running it fine. Eventually on Monday(2/1/15) I restored my OS from a backup I had done in September. When my computer rebooted the weather gadget was working again. I updated everything and saved a new disk image. The problem was that by Wednesday it had stopped. I installed the same disk image I had made on Wednesday and it did not work again. So I went back to the one from September again and reinstalled that and when I booted it up it was working. I brought the system up to date again and burned a new disk image.

During this time, the other two computers ran normally.

When I went to use my laptop on Wednesday night, the weather gadget on there had died.

So I'm not sure what's causing it, but I'm pretty sure it's not the service.

It's running now on my desktop but I'll have to look at the laptop.

Same problem. As of today (Feb. 7) all my weather gadgets display "Forecasted 4 days ago" when I click on the "Forecasted" text at the bottom. Have not been able to fix this. I hope someone comes up with the solution because I like the gadgets.

Well,

This is baffling. After I reinstalled on Wednesday from a Norton disk image from September, it started working again. I updated everything and it kept working. I burned a new disk image on 2/5/15. It stayed working but on Sunday evening 2/8/15 it suddenly stopped. So I went back and reinstalled the image from 2/5, but no luck. Didn't work.

Not sure what to make of this. On the one hand, it started working again when I installed a disk image from September, which seems to imply that the problem was in my installation. On the other hand, when that one stopped working, I went back to the (working) image I had made just 2 days before, and that no longer worked, which seems to imply it's not a problem with the local installation.

The weather gadget on my laptop has also stopped working as of Thursday, yet when I turned it on on another laptop in the house, it came up with the temperature right away.

I downloaded the 8GadgetPack. While it has many interesting-looking gadgets, the one I wanted - the simple Weather app (may be MSN, I'm not sure) - exhibited the same behavior that I saw with my earlier installations of the Weather gadget, and that others have reported. It displays "Cannot connect to service." I deleted the gadget, restarted my computer and tried again. No dice.

I take no credit for this solution, but this fixed it on several machines here:

1, Open up the file: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live\Services\Cache\config.xml in notepad.

2, DO NOT make any changes, but just hit Save.

3, Wait 30 seconds and restart the gadgets.

I created an account specifically to reply to this thread, as I've been following it for the last three days and wanted to say jmdl1983's fix worked like an absolute charm. My weather widgets have been updating exactly as they used to all day today.

Yes. I almost didn't try it because it looked so similar to another fix I tried, which involved copying config.xml to overwrite the original version. I'm glad to hear the "open and save" method is working for others.

Yep; I am having the same issues with the weather gadget. It keeps giving me the "cannot connect to service" message every time i try to open the weather gadget. Then when i go into options and try and search using my zip code it says location not found. Is this possibly a server issue on microsoft's side or what and is there a easy fix for this? I just tried searching for the .xml file under my user name but the file isnt even there! I think something may have deleted the file when i reverted back to 7 from the windows 10 tech preview possibly; but what can i do to get this file back and or is there a way to create or get a new version of this file from somewhere?
