BSOD Win 7 --- Driver_IRQL_Not_Less_Or_EQUAL

DVDs are more prone to failing. The files can be burnt to the disc but the disc itself may have bad sectors during burning and result in the inability to restore the files later. An external drive is a much better solution.

Makes sense. I am going to go the "Reflect" Route....One question tho (and it may be in the documentation and I haven't reached that step yet). Once I have everything backed up, 1) how do I restore the data from my external Hard Drive? And 2) what am I using to boot my system? I have an OEM version of 7, and I made Recovery Discs, but to me that would install the data that is causing the burns to be unsuccessful in the first place

Also when I launch Reflec it shows 3 partitions

2 - C:

Do I want to back up all 3 drives? I know that the one listed as C: is my primary drive where my data is housed, but do I need to copy the other 2 as well?

1) You will need to create a Macrium Boot CD, preferably the free Windows version. The Windows version provides better support for various external drives than the Linux version does. I tried the Linux at one time, and it would not recognize one of my external drives, so I now go with the Windows version.

2)You want to recover your system to the factory image using the recovery discs you made or the recovery partition. It will only load the software that was originally installed on the system by your manufacturer/vendor for the OEM. If it is that software that is causing problems, then you will have narrowed it down to being a problem due to the vendor and should contact that company.

I would backup all three drives. 1 is the boot partition for booting the system. 2 is the drive with Windows on it. 3 is the recovery partition for recovering your computer to the factory image mentioned above.

I did select the Windows CD to create with Macrium it is downloading the file now. Ah, that makes sense. So once it is a "fresh" install, then install my burning software and attempt to burn. If I receive a BSOD then I know it is an issue with either manufacturer or the vendor.

I'll use the recovery partition to recover windows. I want to do the destructive one where I will loose all files and settings correct? I know it asks if you want to keep your files intact or something of that nature, it's been a while since I have used it. I want the option that will restore my PC to out of the box settings, right?

I will back up all 3 drives, I wasn't sure. I knew I wanted to keep the 2nd one (my drive with windows on it) but wasn't sure about the others.

More than likely. Do you know if you have had this problem since you first bought the machine, or did you start trying to burn recently and never really tested out of the box? It is either Vendor/Manufacturer related, or for some reason, your disc drive decided to fail. The only way to find out if it is the drive is to replace it or get an external burner and see if the problem persists.

First see if the problem remains after restoring the factory system image.

Yes, you want to remove the current setup and return it to how the system was setup when you first bought it. You will lose your files and settings, which is why we are creating the Macrium backup.

I will back up all 3 drives, I wasn't sure. I knew I wanted to keep the 2nd one (my drive with windows on it) but wasn't sure about the others.
You want to backup all three so that you can return to the current system setup using the Macrium image. If you resolve the problem with the factory image, you can install Macrium and mount the current image and move your important files over. If you go this route, you will have to re-install all software, updates, drivers, etc as you cannot move them from the image. You can only move data from the image, not programs. Also, if you do decide to start from the factory setup, keep the Macrium image around for six months in case you realize you missed important files when getting your data back. I know I often have this problem when I do these steps, and I will regret deleting an image when I realize I am missing something.

I have had this issue since the computer was out of the box. One application would give me a BSOD when trying to burn, so I would try another one to see if it was just an incompatible program. But after the 4th program, I knew it had to be something more.

I have downloaded the file that it gave me from the Macrium Windows PE Backup but I am not sure what files I need to install from there? I installed the Windows AIK Setup...is that all I need to install from there?

You just install what is downloaded as it prompts you to do so, and then you continue through the Macrium steps. It will know which parts of the program you installed to use to make the disc.

Oh okay...perfect thanks!!!

I have copied all 3 partitions to an external HD. Now my next step is to restore to factory settings correct?

Also...did this back up all of my files, or do I need to manually back up pictures...home movies...music etc?

The next step would be to make sure your files are safe, then you can do the factory restore. You can check your files by going into Macrium, selecting the restore tab, and then selecting Browse an image or backup file in Windows Explorer. See How to browse an Image or 'File and Folder' Backup in Windows Explorer for all methods to preview the image.

You should also make sure you can access the image with the boot CD you made.

Is there any way to definitively find out which driver is causing the problem?

I can burn a data dvd fine. To me the (from all the times I have unsuccesfully burned) the problem is in switching from Reading the CD (or converting the movie) from where it swaps over to actually burning the DVD.

For example, the Data DVD I just burned, was a straight BURN no need to swap over from read/write....maybe I am crazy here, but it may help :)
