Hey guys, real sorry in advance if this has been all explained in another thread :$

Here's what happened :

I went from Vista to 7 home premium without any trouble and installed my usual programs. Then my computer started crashing with some IRQL less or equal BSOD errors while I was downloading files (>3mbps). The problem persisted (but had no effect at all on speed during startup) and I grew a bit tired of it so I chose to follow the system's advice to troubleshoot the startup. Since then, my computer started taking over 15 minutes to boot and even though I scrolled countless threads, I managed to fail resolving the problem. Then I though that I maybe had messed up something in the OS so I reinstalled, making sure that I had formatted everything. The problem is that the startup is stil WAY slower than what it used to be : from a startup time of 45s before the troubleshoot (when i went from vista to 7) to around 4minutes. I tried starting with minimal settings and it still takes over 2 minutes...
Just in case it can give an insight to anyone, the startup lags at the "windows starting (with the pulsing flag) and then right after I put my PW in to log.

ESET's system inspector tells me that my drivers are fine and my windows index is still the same at 4.6. Windows troubleshoots detect no problem whatsoever.

All in all, I just don't get what's wrong with my lappy, so I'm asking for help !

Thanks all in advance

On the slim chance do you have a backup from before the problem that we can restore from? do you have a working win 7 dvd to do a repair install?

I did try to do a restore to a version prior to the bug, and it worked (the restore), but the startup speed still was crappy... I already did the winkey + f1 and there's nothing i could find there.

I'm making sure sure that all my drivers are up to date and I'll read those links you guys gave

thanks so much for the lightning fast answers

I don't know how to instal a BIOS update and don't want to mess it up, could I get advice on that ? I did download the BIOS update from ACER, but I'd like more info on how to get it done!

Thanks again

L2

edit : SOZ 4 doubleposting.

edit : I went straight to the ACER site to dl the latest drivers and it didn't fix the problem. (added +-5seconds to bootup)

Acer no doubt provides explicit instructions on doing a bios update for your particular model.

Here's another idea or a couple:
1. WIN | type disk cleanup | enter key
Be sure to also check the advanced tab but don't let MS delete programs which you seldom use.

2. Download, install, run CCleaner

3. WIN | type msconfig | Enter key | startup tab
Uncheck everything except that which is from Microsoft or Acer or Synaptics. Now Restart your computer. Only re-enable something if you have problems.

Let us know if your system is now running faster.

Those 3 steps have already been done without any real benefit!

edit : that's what acer tells on the website : "Updating an incorrect BIOS may cause harm to your system. We recomend that you only do this after being instructed by one of our Customer Care representatives. By using these updates you agree to accept the possibility of product failure."

That's completely correct, I almost never suggest someone "mess with" the BIOS as the system can/will be ruined forever if done incorrectly.

The bios is for every computers 6920G running any OS...Acer is quite easy on Bios update (i do own one!), run the WinPhlash and that's it. It might reboot aswell. It had sometimes fixed some troubleshootings to update the bios when an upgrade had been made from Vista to Windows 7.

Do you remember which one App/driver had caused the + 5seconds on boot?

I'm reading something on the 1.16 bios update in this site :

Acer 6920G Bios Updated 1.16v released

and it looks like I need to use a bootable USB flashdrive ??

Looks hella complicated

Es-tu certain qu'il faille seulement cliquer sur le .exe comme ça ?
(are you sure that I only have to click on the .exe?)

edit : I'm more concerned about the 3minute extra than the few seconds my new programs delay during startup :P
