Latest Internet Explorer 9 Release

So, I'm guessing IE9 RTW will be released in WU tomorrow?

At best if seen in the WU it would be found in the optional software updates. Each time a newer version of IE has been seen it has typically been a separate download unless indicated in the optional updates due to not having it already installed.

Gee now I will have to restore a system image with IE 8 in it and see if 9 is listed when checking! :D

It will be interesting to see what happens when windows update tries to patch IE. That could mess things up or give you a lot of failed updates.

He would likely see the incompatibility issue if anything. Typically any update for the 64bit Windows however would need to include the 64bit IE as well as for the 32bit.

One way to solve that fast would be to rename the copy of the 64bit folder to (x64) and restore the 32bit folder back when going to check for updates. Once any update is on you could rename the 32bit and 64bit copy to the way you had them.

The other method of making the 64bit default is even easier. You simply unpin the 32bit or pln the 64bit shortcut next or near to the 32bit and use that. That still won't stop IE pages from opening into the 32bit version however when clicking on a favorite or link in a help file.

Well, you could always set an Image File Execution Option for iexplore.exe and set the debugger as the x64 IE instance ;). However, given that most controls are 32 bit and the 64 bit browser doesn't have quite the JS performance that the 32 bit browser does, I'm not sure this is entirely a good idea.

Any way to get rid of the silly download manager? When I click on a file I want to download, I want to choose where to save it, not have it go into a default folder.

Thanks.

Actually I found the new modular type download bar an improvement over the middle of the screen always popup. That also serves as the information toolbar seen at the bottom of the screen having a dual purpose.

As far as using the Image File execution and debugger I wouldn't advise using that method either. Something like that is for the advanced programmer not the typical end user. Pinning a shortcut for the 64bit IE 9 to the taskbar is easy enough for wanting to use over the 32bit without tampering with how things should work and ending up with another situation to tend with.

Hi,

I must say that I'm not to happy about IE9. It doesn't manage my cookies properly or just plain flushes them. Having the Fav bar on the right needs a bit of getting used to and the security settings need to be managed by someone that has more experience than finding the start button.

Also that annoying download bar which you can't get rid of.

And to top it all off, it has disabled one of my main softwares.

OK rant over.

Rant all you want! :D As for the security settings nothing has seen any change there. In fact when installing IE 9 it took the IE 8 settings and applied them automatically as well as setting up the Favorites bar.

The information bar/download bar is now modular in form where you can multiple downloads going at the same time without 10 popups for each. You simply click the view downloads button to see the progress. It acts as a download manager in that sense.

The main issue people are having however is seeing the Favorites open on the right due to the new look. MS wanted a new look for IE 9 being the first to tap vpu processing power and "trim the fat" in order to make it a faster browser.

Having the Favorites open on the right and then pinning to the left with the arrow suggests MS wanted to include an option for seeing them on either side and not just on the left side as it "always has been". Now you have them open on the right as well as the left side. They just open on the right(annoying? Yes!) and then you pin to the left with the small green arrow.

There is more to it than that.

No spell checker option. At least Ie8 took ie7Pro in part. The tracking mode is confusing at best. Explain the script option to mr everyday.

And like I mentioned the cookie issue leaves a bad taste.

Have fun with IE9., but until I see some polishing, i'll stick to IE8 and I'm playing with Firefox 4 which seems to suit more my tastes.

seems that if the spellchecker is all you need, then you're going to miss out on all the advances

The ieSpell doesn't even appear on the 64bit version. Another thing noticed is that the 32bit seems to load up faster then the 64bit alternative.

The IE7Pro tries to place other things on like a Progsense and new toolbar while the ieSpell is a basic spell checking addon.

With any addon I stick to those with the basics only no other nonsense added on like tool bars.

I am having problems on one site with IE 9 over 8 however. When going to post a snipping or adding a link into a program name for the home page the post ends up with scrambled text instead. I ended up on Opera 11 to clean that up.

As fior general performance we seem to have a winner for most other sites however! :D I'm sure the minor bugs seen at this will be cleared up once you start seeing regular periodic updates.

IE9 slow

Hmmmm think I posted it sowmwhere but can't think where now - but the slow tabbing and loading - turned out to e the simplest of things - dirty wall phone connection cleaned out and off pushes in / out a couple of times - problem gone - things flying now.

Just goes to show one can sometimes go looking for a problem when it doesn't exist (in the machine) and forget the really simple things we take for granted.

All because my landlien phone wouldn't work this am fiddled with flters and surge boards for over an hour and a half before looking at that simple connection.

Someone has been asking why connection speeds with IE 8 on the XP Mode was faster then IE 9 on the 7 host. When asking if speed test sites were used the answer was yes. So I ran a few tests with IE 9 and saw different results each time!

Once you know there's no problems small even at your end the web actually becomes the larger factor with busy servers at a particular site, your ISP is swamped with people checking the mail, or hardly anyone is on and you fly like a rocket! The main thing to look at is overall performance over a lengthy period of time.

Gee haven't been on dial up since the 90s! That must be slow as.....:sick:

After testing, IE7 Pro works best if installed before updating to IE9. The tool bar is grab pro. You disable that one and the other options work nicely. I also used the user scripts and they work well.

Now tweaks like IE9 Tweaker Plus v2.0 or Tweak IE9 will let you use some of the tweaks that you may have trouble finding except the resize option the 3 icons besides the address bar. Tweak IE9 works especially best for that except the option to show menu in contextual right click isn't offered once you've tweaked that option.

Liked mentioned, I also think that MS will also make a few tweaks of their own to fix these issues.

Still Ie 9 has a mind of it's own with cookies and CCleaner.

I noticed that updating all my cookies and saving them before installing IE9 kept everything in place. I also noticed that IE8 will not import all cookies saved by IE9.

ieSpell is good, but Speckie is better.
As for 64bit IE, just don't use it, it's not as good as the 32bit because it doesn't use the same Javascript engine. That's about the main reason.
So what if you're running x86 IE on x64 OS? Who the hell cares? If it works, don't complain about fixin' it ;)
