I strongly recommend upgrading to IE9. It is so much faster and better, it makes IE8 look stupid.

Yeah, it had lots of improvements. Do you think this web browser is as good as firefox or chrome, or even better?

Personally, I wouldn't say it's better than Chrome but definitely better than FF and IE8.

That's just my opinion though because of what I like in a browser.

Based on my own preferences, I'd rank IE9 as the best at the moment, with Firefox 4 second.
IE9 has better font rendering than Firefox 4, which I also use regularly.
Tried Chrome recently and it had problems with some sites I use, so gave up on it.

I'll second (third?) the motion that IE9 is pretty good. Definitely better than IE8. I'd say give it a try. If you decide you don't like it you can always uninstall it and revert back to the default IE8 for Windows 7. If you're not used to Chrome of Firefox there will be a learning curve to get the most out of IE9.

Actually I use Firefox most of the time, and sometimes Chrome, but almost never IE.
Ever since my IE updated to IE9, it couldn't connect to the internet while ANY OTHER BROWSER CAN (ff, chrome, opera) and programs that rely on it (such as my antivirus) could not connect to the internet.
It was an auto-update, by the way. I did not realize it had been updated until I opened IE...

And NOW firefox is following IE's lead... Along with Opera. The only one working right now is chrome... :huh:

Google Chrome and IE on Windows use wininet for creating connections with winsock, whereas Firefox is a sockets app (so has it's own network layer, and only talks to Winsock on Windows). Might want to consider a 3rd party filter driver or winsock LSP causing the issue.

Basically, different browsers use different means to connect to the internet. Since more than one browser is having internet connectivity issues it's probably computer related rather than a problem with just IE9. If you still have IE9 installed I'd suggest uninstalling it.

Then I'd run a System File Check to see if your computer has any incorrect, corrupted, changed, or damaged system files. If it does SFC will try to install the correct versions if possible. (If SFC finds any problems, run the scan 3 times because sometimes not every file can be repaired/replaced on the first or even second scan.)

Uninstalled IE9, Then ran the system check once, it fixed something, restarted, ran 2 more system checks, tested IE, it doesn't work. Firefox and Opera are helpless too. Chrome is the only survivor... :huh:

For clarification, when you say you "tested IE" was that the default IE8 that comes with Windows 7 or did you reinstall IE9? If it was IE8 there might be some other issues. Can you access System Restore and do you have a restore point that goes far enough back in time to before you started having these problems? See Option One, Item 7, in this tutorial to access additional restore points.

Well, yeah. I uninstalled IE9. So I got IE8 back. But the problem started when I had IE9... So maybe something else got installed?
Restore Points are always last resort for me... Plus I don't remember the date lol.
I'll be installing some updates now XD. Definitely unchecked IE9.

Did you manually install IE9 or was it through the Windows Updates? The final was released to web around the middle of March if I remember correctly. Did the problems start immediately after installing or some time thereafter (hours, days, weeks?) Am I correct that Firefox and Opera began having problems just a couple of days ago when you edited your post? Definitely a strange situation.

IE9 was installed from Windows Update. The problem began immediately and you're right about Firefox and Opera.
Strange that Chrome still works.

Have we tried running netsh winsock reset on afflicted machines? If Chrome, Firefox, IE, etc all have trouble accessing the internet, the only thing they have in common is the winsock layer (and it's related 3rd party LSP and TDI drivers on the stack). Does a winsock reset make any difference?

Hiyya Zirro see we are both down under yet you seem to get IE9 regularly good and Fire 4 no probs?

My IE9 runs hot and cold (some days light speed and Firefox never a hitch although I do prefer the features of IE having got use to them over the years.

By the way which IE do you use most of the time 32 or 64bit? I find 64bit runs a tad better but NO flaming Youtube yet!! so 32bit for it.

Agree with the Chrome was a wasted try really didn't like al the ads and crap dingles and dongles that accomanied it. Plus I had a gut feeling it was watching me like a hawk - I know they probably all do but C seemed extra obvious.

Still my immediate problem is damn emails - grief it's a jungle eh? so....
