Hello malon015,

Sorry for the delay! I was on holiday and got back yesterday. It's been a while since your last set of logs so I would like to get some fresh ones before we continue :)

Can you zip up your CBS folder and attach it to your post please, as well as your WindowsUpdate log?

Hi malon015,

Strangely, your CBS log is useless here. Usually that's the one with the most information but we're going to have to work off the WindowsUpdate.log instead.

Tom - that's only v.226, rather than the v.256 that's currently failing
I don't believe there's an officially available download of v.256?

Oops! Let's try replacing the lot manually then, hopefully that would narrow it down to a registry problem.

I went to reboot the computer and noticed the yellow shield telling me that Windows would be installing updates at shutdown. I thought I'd check the Windows Update history again. See attached. Same two updates installing over and over every day.

I just want to add....

I noticed in event viewer the OP posted screenshots of, that it kept referring to the temp folder.

OP, Can you delete all temporary files and temp files?

Control panel-internet options-delete. Check all boxes except passwords and restart.

Also delete files in the temp folder. You can see this video on how to.

Alternatively you can download CCleaner in my sig and run the cleanup on the built in settings.
Just open it and hit run cleaner. That will do everything for you.

tom982,
There is no Automatic Update service listed in Standard or Extended. :(

That's not good! Wait, do you mean windows update? You are looking for windows update in services, not automatic update. Automatic update service was in xp, not windows 7. It's called windows update now.

Still, I suggest doing the following:

Go here ------> http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/236709-services-restore-default-services-windows-7-a.html

Scroll down to windows update. Download and merge the reg file. Restart. You should then get your windows update service back and this might fix the issue since we tried everything else at this point it seems.

Hopefully you do not have to do a repair install.

Hi malon,

The good news is, neither do I! Let's scrap that plan, I didn't think that one through.
