Ok this link right here Blue screen while trying to install xp

Worked for me.. It did not bluescreen where it usually did. It was changing the hdd from sata to comptability if you have a xp cd before service pack 3. I dont know if you guys want to sticky that somewhere or what. But i will post back when xp is fully installed on the pc and working with no problems.

*wonders if i could change it back to sata when i have service pack 3 installed*

You cannot install XP to a logical formatted partition as it needs to mark itself active during install and only a primary partition can be marked active.

The best way to proceed is to delete the formatting in Disk Mgmt, have the booted XP installer create a partition there and format it NTFS. The XP partition table is slightly different than Win7.

I think im having a minor problem. I did the EASY BCD and now it took me to 7 and now i cant get back to xp i dont know how to load the boot loader. Also i have to keep switching that thing in the bios for the bluescreen. FROM compatability to ATA ATA for 7 to work without bluescreen and Comp for xp to work with out bluescreen.

I need to know how to get the bootloader up.

From Win7, install EasyBCD 2.0 beta and add XP to Dual Boot menu. If it says it is added, then remove it and add again. It will ask to load boot files when you click Add OS, so say OK, then highlight XP above and Save. http://neosmart.net/forums/showthread.php?t=642

Did you install XP with your SATA controller in a different mode? If so, you may be able to get by with an XP repair install while the SATA controller is set to the same setting which is working for Win7.

Otherwise XP will need to be reinstalled.

This will afterward require adding Win7 back to the Dual Boot using EasyBCD which requires Net Framework 2.0 to run in XP.

sotorious,

Do you have SATA installation driver for your computer? If so, press F6 when XP setup starts up, insert the disk (must be a floppy disk) load the driver, then resume the setup. I had similar problem, that's the only way to solve it.

Dual boot is easy, dual boot on your case is a bit more complicated...
I have 7 and XP dual boot up and running now... and an OpenSuSE 11.2 on another disk (not listed in Windows 7 boot loader)

Your XP's problem is that it can't find the proper driver to find your boot device. You said you changed IDE compatibility/SATA AHCI in the BIOS, that's where you "change" the boot device. Windows XP assume that it's booting from an IDE device and so, it has IDE device driver. Once you change that entry in BIOS to AHCI, Windows will still load the IDE driver resulting BSOD (wrong driver for wrong storage device).

Good luck, sotorious...

O god. so the only way I can fix that with out doing that hardcore fix is a clean reformat again, and then hitting f6 to load that one driver?

If I were to clean reformat, what would i exactly do at the start up screen before it bluescreens.

because i dont think im that technicaly advanced to be messing with any sysprep or anything like that. If worse comes to worse ill just run xp as main os and leave it like that.
