My Computer

OS
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Form http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/783-elevated-command-prompt.html
Do:
Code:
chkdsk/f c:
Eventually check other disks as well. No errors? All errors repaired? Eventually run it again to be sure disk is running fine. Run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/715-memory-diagnostics-tool.html as well

I tried to run this a couple of times earlier today but my laptop crashed. When it rebooted to run the test I just got a black screen and my HDD was doing nothing. I let if for a couple of minutes but it did nothing.

I will check again though.

Do the chkdsk command first.

to run Memory Diagnostic Tool :
Boot your machine and tap F8 multiple times (once every half second). Now you see a menu with "safe mode", "safe mode networking" etc.
Also a option "repair your computer". Select it, follow instructions. Then select Memory Diagnostic Tool . Works?

I tried it from Boot and the same thing happens. The screen goes black, and HDD stops, then nothing - left it for 2-3 mins but laptop acts as though its alseep (power light on, screen backlit but black, no systems running).

So Memory Diagnostic Tool doesn't work from "repair your computer"?
Do you have a win7 install dvd to run it? Create a system repair disc and boot from it. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2083-system-repair-disc-create.html

I dont have a win7 disc - does that mean I need to create a system repair disc?

f8 "repair your computer"->memory diagnotics tool... asks you to reboot and on the fly modifies the bootmenu. It runs the same program as within windows!! So both fail

Yes create a system repair disc. And boot from it. You know how to change the boot order in BIOS? Be sure it only boots from DVD!! So temporary disable boot from harddisk! I must be sure it runs memory diagnostics from cd/dvd

But I think the tool not running is just one of your problems!? sfc gives errors as well. And windows explorer crashes sometimes. No virus?? Do you have a good virusscanner?

You have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit ..what language? You have a valid windows licence? Have a look at a sticker on laptop.. Certificate Of Authority (COA) sticker is it.

Yes- both fail, really concerned by that I must admit.

I will create the disc - cant remember how to change bios settings to boot from disc. I will check the net for instructions.

Should I be concerned by the results so far?
