Many bsods on a new system lately...

I was thinking of doing prime95 testing too, so I did do that and left it on before I went to bed a little late 3:30am in the morning . Want to get this fixed! Anyways, I am unfamiliar with prime and I just chose the defaults "Just Stress Testing" and "blend" option. Is there anything that I should change?

So far it's been only 3 hours and my computer is still churning out those numbers. Back to sleep for now, and when I wake up I'll make any proper changes and leave it running when I go to work.

*I also got rid of everything speedfan related for now.
**It might be helpful to add that I have Kaspersky Internet Security. Started using it around January 10th or so and it is kept updated.

Also adding a screenshot of cpu and ram info that cpu-z shows.

have a look here for a guide but i would run it overnight at around priority 6 in advanced and you may well have to enter the password ?

when you are done i suggest fully unninstall kapersky temporarily as this has been know to cause crashes, try using something like MSE for a while just to see if it stops your bluescreens

Thanks for the update! I just got back from work, it's 5pm here. I left Prime running at the defaults since this was before you left me the message. Just got back and computer is still alive. So that's about 15 hours of prime? I'll look into that guide to see what else I can do with prime.

I'll go ahead and uninstall Kaspersky right now.

A quick update: So far no bsods. System feels fine, I'm doing all my normal tasks for both work, school and play and no hiccups. As always, if anything happens I'll come back!

So thanks for now! Maybe another week without crashes and I can confidently tell myself everything is ok

Oops...Recently got some more troubles... Not sure what is going on! Attached are the crashes.

On two occasions I bumped my table and caused the freezes/bsods. I am going to reseat the cpu and heatsink once I get some thermal paste in hand. I don't think the heatsink is tight enough on the cpu or has a good connection between heatsink and cpu. My computer would not start up after I tried to reseat the other components in my computer, including the cpu/heatsink, until I wiggled the heatsink around, which got the computer going.

I looked at the last 3 from the 22nd Feb and each one has a different cause , one of them was ntfs.sys which is the disk subsystem, it does sound like you have a loose connection ?

I would be concerned if the heatsink wasnt clamping to the CPU properly, is it a generic make , the heatsink should be clamping down firmly and if it won't then your clip is not up to the job ?

It might be a good idea to look at your sata connectors and try position everything so it's definately pushing into it's socket rather than pulling or flexing away ?

A hard thump on a case can always cause a freeze by unseating ram but all other connectors are normally too well secured to be affected ?

Oops! Sorry about the files, I thought I had just zipped the recent ones. I am using an aftermarket heatsink (Scythe Ninja Mini) and I suspect that it isn't clamping down as well as it should (it was easy to get on in the first place, which makes me suspicious...I usually have a hard time clamping down heatsinks.) When I get the chance, I will go grab some thermal paste and maybe even my stock heatsink and see if that helps. Will keep you updated, thanks!

Oh, I will also switch out my SATA cables. They did seem easy to plug in and out, which makes me wary of their ability to actually stay plugged in :/ Thanks for the idea!

It's been awhile. Since my last post, the bsods got worse. I narrowed it down to either the CPU or motherboard. It's difficult for me to test either because I don't have any extra parts to do so. I needed a stable computer with final projects coming up fast here so I went ahead and found a sale on nearly identical parts (upgraded to a 965 for even cheaper than I got the 955). Since then, no bsods whatsoever.

I looked under the CPU and I found thermal paste on the base of two pins. Could this be the problem? A shortcircuit of the pins? I used Arctic Silver 5, so I am not sure how much of a problem it would be, since it's a thermal conductor isn't it, and not a electrical conductor? I'm also afraid that some of the paste got into the CPU socket as well. My next plan of attack is to clean the pins and socket with isopropyl alcohol, though I've never ran into this problem before so any suggestions would be nice. Somehow the CPU and/or the socket are to be blamed for my misfortune this past month. Hopefully I can revive the two and make a computer for my family to use at home.

I have never known thermal paste to short contacts as it is specifically not an electrical conductor, the only way thermal paste could interfere is if it stopped those pins contacting in the socket, and I cant imagine how you would clean the socket :shock:

personally I think it is more likely a small component(s) inside your processor or a component(s) on your motherboard has failed, but because computers are so complex your simplest choice is replace the module , which is either motherboard or CPU ?
